Our Curriculum balances core requirements with strong electives to achieve a solid foundation in family medicine.  

First year curriculum

  • Internal medicine (3 blocks)
  • OB (2 blocks)
  • Pediatrics (1 block)
  • Surgery (1 block)
  • Internal medicine “selective” (1 block)
  • Sports medicine (1 block)
  • Emergency medicine (200 hours in ER over 1 block)
  • Geriatrics (1 block)
  • Women’s health (1 block)
  • Radiology (1/2 block)
  • Urology (1/2 block)

Second year curriculum

  • Internal medicine (3 blocks)
  • OB (2 blocks)
  • Pediatrics (1 block)
  • Surgery (1 block)
  • NICU, PICU, or outpatient pediatrics (1 block)
  • Orthopedics (1 block)
  • Dermatology (1/2 block)
  • ENT (1/2 block)
  • Internal medicine “selective” (1 block)
  • Electives (2 blocks)

Third year curriculum

  • Internal medicine (2 blocks)
  • OB (2 blocks)
  • Pediatrics (2 blocks)
  • Practice management (1 block)
  • Ophthalmology (1/2 block)
  • Anesthesia (1/2 block)
  • Behavioral science (1/2 block)
  • Electives (3 1/2 blocks)
  • Rural/international/urban underserved (1 block)

  • Allergy
  • Alternative medicine (complementary or integrative medicine)
  • Dentistry (for those seeking skills for the developing world)
  • Endoscopy month (EGD and Colonoscopy)
  • Hospice and palliative care
  • Maternal-fetal medicine
  • Outpatient family fedicine clinic
  • Outpatient gynecology
  • Parenting month
  • Physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R)
  • Plastic surgery
  • Podiatry
  • Preventative medicine
  • Procedures month (customized month of procedural enhancement)
  • Scholarly thinking (research)
  • Trauma surgery
  • Ultrasound training
