Ascension Via Christi Family Medicine Residency 50th Anniversary Alumni Bike Trip
Sept. 17-21, 2020
Frisco, Colorado

While in the past former alumni, faculty, volunteer faculty, and their families joined us, this year, we regret that you will be unable to do so due to the maximum meeting guidelines issued by the Colorado Department of Health in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.  50th anniversary events will be postponed until 2021.

However, you can still support first and second year residents attending the bike trip this September by making a donation!  Please scroll to the bottom of this page to contribute.

In 1970, St. Joseph Hospital in Wichita, Kansas took a giant step toward becoming a teaching hospital. Dr. Lew W. Purinton, medical education director, and Dr. Robert Purves, were instrumental in the opening of a three-year residency program in the newly launched specialty of Family Medicine where young physicians would be trained to care for patients within their families and communities through a new comprehensive model, which would include longitudinal training in obstetrics , pediatrics, internal medicine, surgery, and psychiatry among others.  The St. Joseph Family Medicine Residency was launched.

50 years later, the Ascension Via Christi Family Medicine Residency is still going strong because of you. Thank you for being part of this 50 year legacy and help us continue this vital program in our community for many years to come. Please join us in Colorado for this year's annual Alumni Bike Trip in celebration of the 50th anniversary of St. Joseph Family Medicine Residency.

Dr. Bruce Woods and all of the faculty and leadership of the Via Christi Family Medicine Residency program invites you to join us in Colorado for this 50th Anniversary Via Christi Alumni Bike Trip!  Bruce was the director of our Behavior Science training, served as faculty from 1980-1997, and it was he who who conceived of and launched the annual Bike Trip in 1983.  Bruce remains an avid bicycler and will himself, lead the alumni bike trip up Vail Pass on Saturday on September 19th.
