Multidisciplinary team provides coordinated, patient-focused care
Via Christi Hospital Pittsburg's multidisciplinary team of rehabilitation professionals are committed to developing individualized, problem-specific, result-driven treatment plans for our patients. Rehabilitation services are available to inpatients, skilled nursing patients, outpatients and home health patients.
Our approach emphasizes early intervention and aggressive outcome-driven rehabilitation of conditions resulting from disability, disease, injuries occurring in the home, at work or during athletic activities. All care plans are carefully coordinated with a primary care physician to ensure the most effective solution to the patient's treatment needs.
Our convenient, well-designed facilities provide an ideal balance between comfortable areas for private, hands on therapy and open areas for exercise, equipment use and patient interaction.
Inpatient acute rehabilitation
The Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) at Via Christi Hospital Pittsburg — a unit located on the medical center's second floor — is designed to meet the special physical and cognitive rehabilitative needs of qualified individuals who have experienced a disabling injury, illness or surgery. Our goal is to return individuals to a functional level that enables them to regain as much independence as possible, as quickly as possible.
Advanced treatment programs are offered for medical conditions including — but not limited to — stroke, hip fractures, arthritis, amputation, neurologic disorders, and general orthopedics.
Our rehabilitation program helps patients with physical impairments that limit functional abilities, a need for assistance in performing daily living functions, medical complications that cause a decline in physical function, or a recent disability.
All patients admitted to the ARU receive comprehensive care from a team of trained professionals under the direction of a rehabilitation physician, who works closely with the patient's personal physician to ensure continuity of care.
Evaluation and treatment provided to our inpatients may include:
- Rehabilitative nursing
- Occupational therapy
- Physical therapy
- Speech and language pathology
- Swallowing disorders evaluation and treatment
- Recreational therapy
- Social services
- Therapeutic nutritional and dietary services
- Pastoral care
- Respiratory therapy
- Behavioral health services
- Family support
- Diagnostic imaging
- Wound and skin management
The Via Christi ARU provides a comfortable, family-oriented atmosphere with therapy individualized to meet each patient's physical, spiritual, cultural and emotional needs. Family members and friends are encouraged to participate in the treatment process. Prior to discharge from ARU, caregivers are given the education and training needed to support the patient in the home environment.
