You've been dealing with it for weeks now — or perhaps months: a wound that won't heal, or doesn't seem to respond to traditional treatments. Many factors can contribute to poor healing, which makes it important for you to choose a wound care provider with expertise in a variety of care areas.
Ascension Via Christi Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Therapy brings together doctors, nurses and therapists with specialized training in treating chronic wounds. Our caring staff can create a custom treatment plan for you to stimulate new healing and help you move forward to a healthier life.
How do I know if I need specialized wound care?
If you have a wound that hasn't healed in 30 days, speak with your doctor. He can examine your wound and decide if specialized wound care is a good choice for you. Wound care can helpful for such conditions as:
- Ulcers (diabetic, neuropathic, pressure, ischemic)
- Venous insufficiency (impairment of blood flow through veins)
- Traumatic wounds
- Surgical wounds
- Vasculitis (inflammation in the blood vessels)
- Peristomal skin irritations
- Other chronic wounds
At your first appointment, you will undergo preliminary tests to assess the blood circulation to your arms and legs. Debridement (or cleaning up of an infected wound) may be necessary. Then, a case management team will evaluate your physical, emotional and financial needs and create a custom treatment plan for your wound. Your progress will be tracked through weekly visits.
To ensure that you are receiving the highest quality, most appropriate care for your situation, your treatment plan is regularly reviewed by a panel of consulting clinicians.
Healing with hyperbaric therapy
After examining your wound, your physician may decide that you are a good candidate for Via Christi's hyperbaric therapy. During hyperbaric therapy, you lay inside a pressurized chamber and breathe 100 percent oxygen. As you inhale, your blood carries the extra oxygen to the injured area to promote new healing. Via Christi's trained staff will be with you at all times during your treatment.
What to expect
Hyperbaric therapy treatments take about two hours. During treatment, you may feel pressure in your ears, similar to traveling on a plane. Glass windows are built into the hyperbaric chamber, so you can watch TV or a movie while undergoing treatment. In case of claustrophobia, medication can be prescribed. Your treatment schedule will vary, based on your progress.
If you've been living with the annoyance or pain of a wound that won't heal, there is hope. Speak with your doctor to see if you are a good candidate for Ascension Via Christi Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Therapy.
