Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, previously Mercy Regional Health Center, is a healthcare leader in northeastern Kansas, with 150 physicians, 800 employees and 350 volunteers serving the people of Manhattan and the surrounding areas with a wide range of quality health and wellness services.
Mercy announced in February 2014 that it would fully join Via Christi Health, the largest nonprofit healthcare provider in Kansas. Previously, Via Christi and the Memorial Hospital Association (MHA) had a joint 50-50 ownership of Mercy, with Via Christi providing management services.
A $15.5 million facility expansion will include completion of space in the north tower for outpatient services; expansion and renovation of the Emergency Department and Birth and Women’s department; and construction of a new chapel.
The transition to Via Christi solidifies the Manhattan hospital as a healthcare leader in northcentral Kansas, and enhances care for the poor and vulnerable in the region. The transition of Mercy’s Sunset campus to Kansas State University will create a foundation to help improve healthcare services in the area.
Via Christi is a member of Ascension, the largest Catholic and nonprofit healthcare system in the country. As a Catholic healthcare system, Via Christi operates in alignment with the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services.
Naming changes also are coming to other healthcare entities in Manhattan. Those include:
- Women’s Imaging Center and Mercy Imaging Center, 1133 College Ave., Bldg. G, is now Via Christi Imaging
- Sunset Campus, 1105 Sunset Ave., is now Via Christi Clinic
- Mercy East, 451 Poyntz Ave., is now Via Christi Therapy Center
- Mercy West, 315 S. Seth Child Road, is now Via Christi Clinic and Via Christi Therapy Center
- Mercy Regional Home Medical Services, 2439 Claflin Road, is now Via Christi Home Medical
- Physician Specialists, 3901 Vanesta Drive, Suite E, is now Via Christi Clinic
The transition of all signs and printed materials is expected to take one to two years.
