  • Diabetes
  • Gallbladder disease
  • High blood pressure
  • High LDL cholesterol
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Pregnancy complications

Developed to be on the cutting edge of adult obesity treatment, Ascension Via Christi Weight Management is a physician-supervised weight-management program to help you lose inches and gain healthier tomorrows.

At Ascension Via Christi Weight Management, we evaluate each patient for the specific reasons that make it difficult to lose weight or keep weight off, including metabolism, environment and motivation. Based on your individual medical and psychological characteristics, we create a personalized strategy to help you lose weight and get healthy.

Why Ascension Via Christi Weight Management?

  • Medical supervision. Unlike many weight-loss programs, Ascension Via Christi Weight Management is physician-supervised, making it safe, effective and more credible to insurance companies. The program is directed by Dr. Debra Doubek, a bariatrician certified through the American Board of Bariatric Medicine.
  • Team approach. Incorporating a whole team of medical professionals, we offer support and treatment in five areas:
    • Medical supervision
    • Psychological evaluation
    • Nutritional counseling
    • Personal training
    • Surgical intervention
  • Emphasis on wellness, not just weight loss. Working with your primary care physician, our goal is not just to help you lose weight, but to develop an overall wellness plan that is right for you.

Our approach includes five components:

  • Medical supervision
  • Psychological evaluation
  • Nutritional counseling
  • Personal training
  • Surgical intervention

Medical Supervision
Ascension Via Christi Weight Management approaches obesity as a complex disease that should be treated by a physician. We monitor and review your:

  • Complete medical and weight history
  • Current medications
  • Lab work
    • Fasting triglycerides
    • Cholesterol
    • Glucose levels
  • Routine medical information
    • Weight
    • Body measurements
    • Blood pressure
  • Metabolic issues
  • Contributing medical conditions
  • Surgical options

Psychological Evaluation
Obesity is often related to personality traits and learned behaviors, which is why therapists and licensed psychologists are part of our team. They:

  • Get to know your personality and motivations
  • Help your physician develop your weight-loss strategy
  • Evaluate candidates for surgery

Nutritional Counseling
Obesity is usually linked to nutritional choices. As a patient, you'll meet with a registered dietitian who is certified in adult weight management. Your dietitian will:

  • Evaluate your food choices
  • Identify healthy ways you can change your environment and lifestyle

Personal Training
In addition to eating right, a healthy lifestyle includes exercise. You will work with a certified personal trainer to:

  • Expend energy as a way to:
    • Regulate appetite
    • Lower cholesterol
    • Shape and tone the body
    • Reduce your body's tendency to store fat
  • Develop a program that fits your lifestyle and weight-loss goals

Surgical Intervention
Bariatric surgery — including laparoscopic banding and laparoscopic gastric bypass — with our qualified surgeon may be an option for those who meet specific obesity criteria. Considered the last resort for treating severe obesity, this option is considered only for people who:

  • Have been through extensive screening procedures
  • Have a body mass index (BMI) above 40
  • Are more than 100 pounds overweight
