Pediatric services

Inpatient hospital services

Treating patients up to 18 years old, the Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan pediatric unit is a four-bed specialty unit within the medical-surgical department. With skilled nurses who specialize in pediatrics working alongside our qualified pediatricians, you can trust that your child will receive high-quality, age-specific care.

Patient accommodations

We take extra care to ensure our patients have everything they need to make their stay as pleasant as possible. Patients have private rooms with a private bathroom, and have access to all kinds of toys and books. They can even watch a movie or play video games.

Patient comfort is one of our main priorities. If your child is going to be admitted to the pediatric unit, please feel free to bring any special toys or blankets from home.

Parent accommodations

We encourage parents to be involved in their child's care. We know this can be a stressful time, so we try to provide accommodations that will make your stay easier.

Parents are encouraged to spend the night and sleeping accommodations are available. Complimentary coffee is also available at the nurses' station.

Pediatric rehabilitation

Pediatric physical therapy

Physical therapy focuses on improving strength, coordination and mobility of the body’s larger muscles, such as the arms, legs and feet. Developing these gross motor skills gives a child with a delay more independence and a greater ability to interact at home, in school and in the community.

Our expert therapists can work with a variety of needs:

  • Plagiocephaly/torticollis/head tilt
  • Developmental disorders
  • Autism spectrum disorders
  • Sensory integration disorders
  • Cerebral palsy and other neurological disorders
  • Down syndrome and other genetic abnormalities
  • Gross motor difficulties
  • Post-injury rehabilitation
  • Walking difficulties
  • Foot and ankle abnormalities

Pediatric occupational therapy

Occupational therapy helps children perform many fine motor and functional tasks in their daily life. Self-care skills like eating, feeding and dressing are critical to quality of life. Building strength and coordination skills like cutting, coloring and handwriting can improve academic performance. And treatment for sensory processing disorder — which manifests itself in a variety of ways — can reduce challenges in many everyday situations.

Our expert therapists can work with a variety of needs:

  • Delays in fine motor and visual motor skills
  • Upper extremity injuries
  • Brain injuries
  • Developmental disorders
  • Autism spectrum disorders
  • Sensory processing disorders
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Down syndrome and other genetic abnormalities
  • Suspended and sensory equipment
  • Aquatic therapy
  • Wii® rehab
  • Spacious gym area
  • Private therapy rooms

A physician’s referral is preferred for physical and occupational therapy assessment and treatment. We accept most insurance plans, including TRICARE and Medicaid. Give your child a better chance at an independent future: talk to your doctor about a referral to Via Christi Therapy Center today.
