Why I chose family medicine: As a child considering a career in medicine, being a doctor only meant being a family physician. While in medical school, I tried to keep an open mind regarding the various specialties. I loved just about every rotation I did: pediatrics, obstetrics, geriatrics, etc. Family medicine was the place where I could roll all those into one!
The most important thing I have learned: Don't take yourself too seriously. Life is too short to be stressed out all the time.
Not too many people know: I'm pretty crafty and creative when given the opportunity and time.
Most rewarding thing about being a doctor: Making patients feel better. When a patient comes to my office with a complaint and I'm able to figure out what is going on and make it better, it makes my day!
Best piece of advice for patients: Take ownership of your health care. Have an active role in the decision-making process with your doctor.
