American College of Physicians
Hometown: Jinan, which is the capital of Shandong Province in China. It is the province's political, economic and cultural center. There are 18 universities and colleges in the city and the population is about 5.9 million. I then moved to Winnipeg, Canada.
Why I chose a career in medicine: My mother is a retired physician. I watched her help her patients when I was growing up. My middle school math teacher also inspired me. I was thinking about going into engineering but he told me he thought I would make a good doctor because he could see that I cared about people.
How I stay physically fit: I practice several forms of Tai Chi.
Impressions of Wichita: The people are nice, the city is quiet and driving is much easier.
Most rewarding thing about being a doctor: Changing people's lives—I try to be a good listener. I like to listen to their issues and help resolve them. Like the detectives in the books I enjoy, I am looking for clues about how to help them with their health issues.
Hobbies and interests: Travel.
In my next life: I would still want to be a doctor. I enjoy my job.
