Hometown: Wichita, Kansas
Family: I met my lovely wife, Diane, in California and we have enjoyed the yellow brick road back home to Kansas together. I have three sons: Joseph, Maximilian and Lorenzo; and two daughters, Mary and Therese.
Why I chose a career in medicine: I believe a life spent in service to others brings happiness. The need to constantly learn and improve makes medicine a lifelong adventure.
Why I chose this specialty: Women make the best patients. They tend to be motivated about their health and are strong partners in the therapeutic alliance between physicians and patients.
Hobbies: Tennis, running, road trips and exploring new local places. I love to visit old churches and historic buildings; they are like art museums and homes all at once, and free to visit!
Best piece of advice for patients: Share your goals with your provider; knowing what you want and what you most want to avoid as complications will help a provider tailor the best care for you.
What keeps me up at night: Women in labor (when I'm on call).
