Ascension Via Christi, part of Ascension, has named Carla Yost as its chief nursing officer and Todd Conklin as its chief operating officer — roles for which both have provided interim leadership for the past several months.
Yost, a registered nurse with 30 years of healthcare experience, served as senior administrator for Quality and Service Improvement since November 2014 and as interim CNO since September.
“Carla is passionate about the key role our nurses play in partnering with our physicians and other clinicians to improve quality, safety and service throughout our integrated health ministry,” said Jeff Korsmo, chief executive officer for Ascension Via Christi. “She has been a champion of upholding and advancing the professionalism of nursing throughout her career.”
Prior to serving as senior leader for Quality and Service Improvement, Yost served as the leader of nursing and clinical operations for Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan. Before joining Via Christi in August 2011, she served as vice president of Nursing and Quality for Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
Conklin, an experienced operations leader who has worked closely with physician leaders in the past, has been serving as interim COO since late October, working in a dyad leadership role with Karl Ulrich, MD, Via Christi’s chief clinical officer.
“Todd has a strong operations and finance background, with particularly deep experience in hospital operations,” said Korsmo. “His background complements Dr. Ulrich’s strong leadership experience in the integrated practice of multi-specialty physician clinics like our Ascension Medical Group.”
Conklin has served in both operational and financial executive leadership roles for several faith-based health systems, including Catholic Health Initiatives and SCL Health, the system created by the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth. He also previously served as an administrative leader in a 350-physician group practice affiliated with Loyola University Health System.
