Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg would like to congratulate Vanessa Jarrett and Jennifer Jameson, registered nurses at Via Christi Cancer Center for recently earning their Oncology Nursing Certification.
According to the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation, certification is a formal recognition of specialized knowledge, skills and experience in the field of oncology and proves that the competency standards have been achieved through a specialized testing process. Certification in oncology is recommended by the Association of Community Cancer Centers’ Cancer Program guidelines, the American College of Radiation Oncology, the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, the American College of Surgeons and the Commission on Cancer Program Standards.
“Certification helps us ensure that our nurses are equipped to thrive in the ever-changing field of oncology because as the treatments of cancer evolve over time, our patient care techniques have to evolve, too,” said Melinda Adair, medical oncology nurse manager. “We could not be prouder of the nurses who make the commitment for oncology certifications and we are so appreciative of the support of our administration in encouraging certification.”
For the past 24 years, Via Christi Cancer Center has worked to provide compassionate care to the Pittsburg community, Adair added.
