HMR, a program offered for the past 18 years by Ascension Via Christi Weight Management, recently was named by U.S. News & World Report as one of the nation's best.
It ranked second on the magazine's annual list of best diets--marking the first time that the HMR program, which integrates diet, physical activity and healthy lifestyle skills through weekly coaching, has been included.
HMR was evaluated against 34 other diets in categories, including easiness to follow, ability to produce short and long-term weight loss, nutritional completeness, safety, and potential to prevent and manage diabetes and heart disease. During the ranking process, reporters and editors from U.S. News & World Report created in-depth profiles of each diet, and a panel of nationally recognized experts on diet, nutrition, obesity, food psychology, diabetes and heart disease rated the diets and their effectiveness.
“We are pleased to see HMR’s program recognized for something we've long known: It truly is one of the most effective diets for weight loss,” said Monica Kretchmar, manager of Via Christi's Weight Management program. “It's been tremendously effective in helping our patients achieve and maintain weight loss, which can result in improvement in risk factors for the development of conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure, and for many individuals who've already developed these conditions, lead to a decreased need for medications."
Studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of the HMR program in supporting weight loss, with national research showing a 47-pound average weight loss for HMR Decision-Free® and Healthy Solutions® clinic patients with a BMI of 40 or greater who completed at least 12 weeks of the program.
Ascension Via Christi Weight Management has clinics at 6100 E. Central and 14700 W. St. Teresa and also offers the HMR at Home program. For more information, call 316-689-6082 or go to viachristiweightmanagement.com.
