Helping Victory in the Valley help cancer patients

Ascension Via Christi was well represented at Victory in the Valley’s East Meets West Walk/Run, which took place on Saturday, May 18, on the grounds of Exploration Place.

Maggie Ward, manager of the Cancer Outreach and Risk Assessment program, served as honorary chair for the Ascension Via Christi-sponsored event, while Wichita Police Chief Gordon Ramsay served as captain of the Blue/East team and Wichita Fire Department Chief Tammy Snow as captain of the Red/West team.
Ascension Via Christi’s All for One team had 48 registered members, including many who work directly with patients and families whose lives have been affected by the disease, raising more than $1,000.

The event kicked off with a 7:45 a.m. opening ceremony, breakfast, and 5K timed run and 2K walk along the river. Severe weather caused the half-mile kids run and celebratory stroll and balloon release to be cancelled. But that did not dampen the spirits of those who came out to support the annual fundraiser for Victory in the Valley, a local non-profit that assists cancer patients and their families by providing practical services to ease their journey along with emotional and spiritual support.

Says Ward:  “Although lightening cut the event short, it was an incredible gathering of survivors, caregivers, family and friends, showing that no one is alone in the fight against cancer.”
