Rotary Club of Wichita's second-annual Rotary Wraps got a big boost from Ascension Via Christi and Ascension Medical Group Via Christi associates, who collectively donated nearly 100 gently used coats, plus an assortment of hats and mittens.
"Everyone rallied very quickly to help ensure that area school children stay warm this winter," says Roz Hutchinson, who helped organize Ascension Via Christi's participation. "We had a particularly large number of donations from AMG and Rehab."
Rotary will be distributing the cold-weather wear to each of the 26 schools and learning centers where its members regularly read to elementary school children.
The donated items will be used to help stock the schools’ coat closets, which provide teachers and social workers with an immediate resource to outfit children who arrive at school without proper cold-weather protection.
"Our goal is to provide a bundle of at least 10 coats, caps and mittens to each of the sites," says Sharon Van Horn, who organized the drive with the support of her fellow Rotarians. "Thanks to the generosity of Ascension associates, we expect to reach and potentially exceed that goal."
