Catholic Care Center achieves memory care designation

The Catholic Care Center has, for the third year in a row, received certification from the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.

The facility's Memory Care unit was awarded the Excellence in Care Dementia Program of Distinction, the only such honor given in Kansas. The award assists facilities in reaching the highest standards of care for people with dementia. It also serves as a resource to family members choosing a location of care for their loved one.

"I think this accreditation really speaks volumes about our program," says Jennifer Sanders, Catholic Care Center marketing director.

The certification helped Lloyd and Rebecca Dillow choose who to care for Lloyd's father two years ago.

“We feel very fortunate to be at Catholic Care,” Lloyd says. “He’s doing quite well here. They take good care of him. We don’t have to worry.”

He adds: “We like that there are 10 people to a wing and full time staff in each wing, along with a full time charge nurse. We just liked the facilities and the staff.”

Donna Wilbert agrees. The accreditation was one of the reasons she chose Memory Care at Catholic Care Center to care for her husband, Lloyd.

“The Catholic Care Center personnel are fabulous," Donna says. "They have compassion for the residents."

She says it wasn't hard to make the decision, even though there were other options much closer to her home.

"They all seem really compassionate," she says. "It’s a very clean facility.”

She was also attracted to the life enrichment programs, which include educational speakers, music therapy, pet therapy, exercise and opportunities for spiritual enrichment.

“We realize that even with a cognitive impairment there are still a lot of ways that you can learn and grow as a person,” Sanders says.
