Ascension Via Christi to take part in upcoming Habitat for Humanity veteran build

On Friday, April 26, Habitat for Humanity will be taking part in a veteran build in the 1100 block of North Green with the help of the Ascension Via Christi St. Francis 4SE nursing team and their colleagues.

“We’ll be there from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.,” says Johnathon Clark, RN, who brought the idea forward through his unit’s practice council. “You don’t need any experience – just the willingness to help out.”

“Our Unit Practice Council does a variety of service projects in the community as a way of extending care to the community beyond their day-to-day roles,” says nurse manager Titus DeGraaf, RN.

Previously, the unit has made blankets for veterans and provided Christmas presents and other items to a teammate’s family that had experienced a death around the holidays. The 4SE team also will be participating in Victory in the Valley’s East Meets West Walk Saturday, May 18, and the Wichita Heart Walk on Saturday, June 8.

“We’re going to try to do one service project a month,” said DeGraaf, noting, “It’s a great way to build camaraderie and teamwork and is personally rewarding for everyone involved.”
