Ascension Via Christi receives first locally produced disposable stethoscopes

Ascension Via Christi has received its first delivery of disposable stethoscopes being created by Wichita State University using its 3-D printers of its innovation labs.

Cost of the materials is being funded through donations to the Via Christi Foundation, which has agreed to fund production of 2,000 disposable stethoscopes.

"The stethoscopes are designed for use by patients being cared for in the COVID-19 units at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis," says Kären Bally, director of Infection Prevention and Control for Ascension Via Christi. "They will remain in the room with the patient, be cleaned in between each usage and then be discarded once the patient has been discharged."

To contribute to this effort or help purchase other locally produced personal protective equipment and supplies, contact David Alexander, Via Christi Foundation president, at david.alexander1@ascension.org or by calling 316-281-5157.
