Ascension Via Christi Hospital, along with the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce, will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony and blessing at 4 p.m. July 19 in the new Cardiac Rehabilitation gym (first floor – inside Visitor Entrance). A reception with light refreshments will follow in the Community Room.
Ascension Via Christi has offered cardiac rehab services for several years, but with increased demand and a revitalized focus on patient health and wellness, the decision was made to renovate a larger room to accommodate patients. The new room is outfitted to care for patients, encouraging a safe, supervised exercise program.
“Cardiac rehab allows our patients who have had a heart attack, have undergone heart surgery and those diagnosed with congestive heart failure (CHF) to exercise under supervision and receive regular health and heart checks,” said Brian Howells, director of rehabilitation.
“This not only helps our patients develop an exercise routine, but also can improve their quality of life and reduce the risk of another event,” he added. “Our trained nursing staff provides education, helps set goals and provides support to patients and their family members.”
Cardiac Rehab is one service that Ascension Via Christi offers that can improve patient health while also decreasing hospital readmissions, which are tracked by the Centers of Medicaid and Medicare Services, Howells said.
“Primary care providers can refer patients who meet the conditions for Cardiac Rehab,” he continued. “Our team will work with patients until they have met their personal goals and have a long-term plan to help manage their heart health.”
