Ascension Medical Group Via Christi's Hugh Wong, MD, who specializes in sleep medicine, and Randall Regehr, MD, an ear, nose and throat specialist, have begun using the Inspire Sleep Apnea device to help patients treat their sleep apnea.
Inspire is placed under the skin of the neck and chest during a short, outpatient procedure. This allows Inspire to work inside the body with the natural breathing process to treat obstructive sleep apnea. While the patient is sleeping, Inspire delivers mild stimulation to key airway muscles, allowing the airway to remain open. The Inspire system is controlled by a small handheld sleep remote. The patient turns on Inspire before bed and off in the morning when they wake up.
