Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother celebrate their 125th anniversary at Via Christi

About the celebration

The Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother celebrated the 125th anniversary of their healthcare mission in Wichita Dec. 10-12, 2014. Events included a Mass, town hall discussion and dinner.

Five Sisters from the Congregation of the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother arrived in Wichita on Nov. 26, 1889 at the behest of Bishop John Joseph Hennessy of the Diocese of Wichita. The SSMs assumed responsibility of St. Francis Hospital on Dec. 11, 1889, and have since made an indelible mark on the Wichita community through their compassionate service to the poor.
