Dr. Qaum's pioneering research article on anti-VEGF therapy for diabetic retinopathy, published 10 years ago, is now one of the Top 50 Most Frequently Cited Articles according to the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, which publishes IOVS (Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science), the leading journal for ophthalmology basic science research. Anti-VEGF therapy, delivered as an injection in the eye, has now helped prevent blindness in over a million people worldwide with macular degeneration, diabetes, and certain types of glaucoma. 

Dr. Qaum’s academic achievements have been recognized by former US President Bill Clinton as well as former New York City Mayor David Dinkins. His community service activities have been recognized by former First Lady Hillary Clinton as well as former New York Governor George Pataki.
